The book is amazing, tho the anecdotes are brutally frank. Yet, Frankl tries to explain through psychology the whys of human behavior, both good and evil. But the point I would like to discuss is where the author explains that its not us who expect something from life; its life itself which expects something from us.
Circumstances are there and theyre only waiting to see what are we gonna do about it. This statement delivers us a responsibility on our behavior, so we cannot excuse us behind other people or behind what we call fate. As Frankl states: Man is the creature who decides who he is. Its cool, isnt it?
But its hard to accept and even harder to live it. Thats why Frankl also confesses: In logotherapy, the patient [ ] must listen to things that, sometimes, are disgusting to hear.
For instance, I found out that a neurotic person is egocentric too! Quite obvious, but its hard to recognize it. Anyway, Ive never felt proud of my neurosis.
You see, Ive always blamed the others and blamed my circumstances for how I am. But I never noticed that it was up to me to do something about it. So if Im unhappy and narcissistic and all that stuff, its only because of me, cuz I decided to be that way.
So today i decide to be happy and free!
